Hairdressing Course (3 years)

Learners who enrol on this full-time programme will complete 2 years of full - time study where they will complete the Theoretical and Practical aspects of the programme.

During the 2nd year of study, learners will be required to find a position as an apprentice in a salon working. Should learners not be able to acquire a salon position they will be required to complete this component in the Academy’s salon under the supervision of the qualified facilitators .

The 3rd Year of study requires the students to work on a full - time basis to complete the practical component of the programmes.

Learners also will be legible to apply for the International VTCT Assessment: 

The *Level 4  (Year 3) is completed in a Registered Salon that can verify and sign off on the accumulated hours over a 1 Year Period which is recorded in a Logbook .  

This is the practical component part of Level 4 of the National Diploma in Hairdressing, and must be completed in a salon, under the supervision of a qualified Hairdresser (who has completed her Trade Test). After successfully completing all components, and providing us with a fully detailed log book of practical hours logged, a student may apply for their Trade Test at an Accredited Trade Test Centre. 

Soma Sense Academy does not do Trade Tests, but can assist with preparing the student with pre-assessments if needed.

On Completion of the 3rd year Level 4 Salon Practical Component Learners who have completed their Logbook and after the Service SETA has completed their External Moderation :

• Certified Copy of Grade 10  
• 16 years of age and older
• Copy of Identity document
• Copy of Identity document [Person/s Responsible for Account]
• Proof of Residence 
• Accommodation fees are excluded
• *Please Note:  Soma Sense Academy reserves the right to adjust fees and costs in case of unforeseen increases

• EXTERNAL EXAMINATION (ITEC) FEES are excluded. Please note: Learners are required to complete the Pre-Requisite VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Award in Infection Control for Hairdressing and Barbering.

NB: - Students are responsible for their own models/clients for practical sessions and exams, as specified on the term plan per faculty.

Examples of Clients needed for various hair services / treatments:

• External Examination Fees are EXCLUDED (subject to £ / ZAR exchange rate)
• Students are to replace all finished products at their own expense
• Prices and fee structure is subject to change without prior notification
• All assignments / Evidence Treatment Sheets should be completed before the student  will be allowed to participate in the National and International Examinations.
• Mock exam and International Pre-Assessment Exam’s Chemical products are for the students’ own expense. All chemical products for National and International Summative exams are provided by the Academy.

•  Cut hair using basic & Advanced Techniques
•  Style hair using drying and basic and advanced setting techniques
•  Perm and neutralize hair using basic and advanced techniques
•  Change hair colour using basic and advanced techniques

THE CANDIDATES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACQUIRING THEIR OWN MODELS   

              PRACTICAL TRAINING & ASSESSMENTS

Training Kits required every day – no exceptions will be made

The following criteria needs to be adhered to before entry into an examination is allowed:

             Required training hours to be completed and up to date.

             Absent hours to be caught up and signed off.

Learners will at the end of the two year period have the opportunity to do the ITEC Level 2 & 3 in Hairdressing as an additional AWARD

The 3 National Hairdressing qualifications will be completed Once the following has been successfully completed and the POE has been submitted for External Moderation by the Service SETA :

• Summative Assessments are successfully completed at Training Institution
• Obtain NQF Levels 2, 3 and 4 Competency Certificates from the Services SETA
• Enters into an Agreement with the Hair Salon
• All Industry Hours are completed as per the Services SETA’s requirements 
• COMPLETE LOGBOOK - Hours need to be logged and signed off by a Qualified Hairdresser 
• Learners need to obtain a certified copy of the above Trade Test Certificate.

The Salon owner / manager needs to be registered with the: 

National Hairdressing Bargaining Council

• PASS  MARK  REQUIREMENTS:  MINIMUM  OF  70%  AND  MORE  IN  ALL  SUBJECTS 
• LEARNERS  ARE  ACADEMICALLY  STRONG  ENOUGH  TO  UPHOLD  2  YEARS  OF  INTENSIVE  STUDY
• INCREASED  PASS  RATE  AT  THE  END  OF  STUDY  CYCLE [ 2 YEARS ]
• INDIVIDUAL  ATTENTION  FOCUSED  ON  STRONG  GROUP  OF  LEARNERS
• LEARNERS  ARE  COGNATIVALLY  ON  THE  SAME  LEVEL
• STRINGENT  EXTERNAL  ASSESSMENTS  CONDUCTED  BY  ASSESSMENT  HOUSES

• IN  THE  CASE  OF  ABSENTEEISM:
• On the day of the Pre-scheduled Assessment, only the  30% tests mark will be captured on the Progress Report as the Final Assessment Mark.
• Should a candidate wishes to re-take the Assessment (Theory and/or Practical) the time and date must be re-scheduled with the Facilitator. 
• Rxx PER ASSESSMENT is payable, prior to the Assessment being conducted.
